How Fast Is the Galaxy A54 5G? Speed Tests and Benchmarks

The newly released Samsung Galaxy A54 5G brings some nice upgrades over its predecessor, including the addition of 5G connectivity. But how does the new mid-range phone actually perform in real world use? We rigorously tested out the Galaxy A54 5G’s speed and benchmark results to see if its hardware upgrades translate into tangible performance gains.

Here is an in-depth look at how fast the Galaxy A54 5G truly is based on extensive testing of the Somali variant.

Galaxy A54 5G Chipset and RAM

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is powered by a capable 6nm Exynos 1380 octa-core chipset paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM options. Our 8GB RAM review unit felt smooth and responsive navigating between apps and menus. While not the fastest chip around, the Exynos 1380 easily handles everyday tasks. Gaming enthusiasts may want a more powerful flagship-level processor however.

Benchmarking CPU Performance

We ran the phone through benchmarks like Geekbench 5 and AnTuTu to evaluate overall CPU speed. In Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests, the Exynos 1380 scored around 750 and 1900 respectively – decent results but below top-tier phones. On AnTuTu, it achieved a score of around 400,000 – once again respectable performance. In real world use, the chip had no problem juggling messaging apps, social media, web browsing and streaming video simultaneously.

5G Connectivity Speeds

A key upgrade for the Galaxy A54 5G is the addition of 5G network compatibility. We tested speeds on the Sub-6GHz 5G networks in Mogadishu from leading providers like Telesom 5G, Somtel 5G and Hormuud Telecom 5G.

Peak download speeds approached 400Mbps, while uploads maxed out around 50Mbps. Very fast, though mmWave 5G can reach even higher speeds. Still, the A54 5G took great advantage of the low latency and capacity of 5G for smooth video streaming and fast downloads. It’s a major connectivity upgrade over the 4G-limited Galaxy A53.

Wi-Fi and LTE Speeds

On Wi-Fi 6, the Galaxy A54 5G reached peak speeds up to 650 Mbps down and 50 Mbps up when connected to compatible routers. The Exynos 1380’s Snapdragon X53 5G modem achieved 4G LTE download speeds of around 80 Mbps and uploads of 35 Mbps – decent LTE performance if you don’t yet have 5G locally. The phone was able to maintain strong, steady network connections for lag-free video calls over Wi-Fi and LTE.

Gaming Frame Rates

Casual games like Candy Crush played flawlessly, no surprise given the capable hardware. But how does the A54 5G fare with graphics-intensive titles? We tried popular 3D games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty Mobile to find out. At default graphics settings, gameplay felt mostly smooth with occasional dropped frames. Lowering the graphics settings provided a more consistent 60fps gaming experience. So the A54 5G can definitely game, just not at maxed out settings.

Storage and Disk Speeds

Our Samsung Galaxy A54 5G review unit has 128GB of internal UFS 2.2 storage. We tested disk write/read speeds using AndroBench, which delivered sequential rates of around 500MB/s for both reads and writes. That’s decently quick and enables apps and games to load without much delay. Those who take a lot of 4K video may want to opt for the 256GB configuration however.

Biometrics and Charging Speed

The side-mounted fingerprint reader and face recognition features unlock the A54 5G instantly without fail. Charging speeds are quick with 25W wired charging getting a depleted battery back to 50% in 30 minutes per our tests. Wireless charging is slower at 15W but more convenient.

In summary, the Exynos 1380 chipset and ample 6/8GB RAM provide smooth Android performance suitable for daily tasks and media consumption. 5G connectivity speeds give you rapid access to streaming and downloads on the go. And extras like swift charging and biometrics further enhance the user experience. For the price, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G delivers great speed where it counts.
